Washington, DC — Jobs in construction, manufacturing, and mining and logging rebounded in June, while May’s mediocre numbers were revised upwards, according to new analysis in today’s Blue Collar Jobs Tracker. However, the gains were concentrated in the South and West.

What was a nationwide manufacturing slump has recovered in June, but fingers are crossed about if it will stick. “It’s better to wait until the July numbers are released before we declare the slump dead,” advises CEPR data analyst Matt Sedlar.

The Northeast lagged other regions in terms of job growth in manufacturing and construction. It was the only region in the country to see construction job loss in June. “It remains clear that the economy is not working for everyone, especially in the Northeast,” said Sedlar.

California appears to be experiencing a construction boom, driving the number of construction jobs back up to prerecession levels. This month’s Blue Collar Jobs Tracker parses out the data and the speculation on what’s driving that boom.
