The conference was organized by the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences (PASS) and Columbia University’s Initiative for Policy Dialogue (IPD).Weisbrot joined CEPR Advisory Board member and Jubilee Commission Chair Joseph Stiglitz, Columbia University Professor of Economics and former Minister of Economy for Argentina Martín Guzmán, CEPR Senior Research Fellow Jayati Ghosh, and other Commission members at the Vatican in discussing the report’s findings and what the international community can do to address the debt, development, and climate crises affecting many low- and middle-income countries around the world.

The conference continued an initiative launched by the late Pope Francis in preparation for the 2025 Jubilee Year, highlighting the Church’s call for debt justice. As noted by PASS and IPD, Pope Francis has stressed the inadequacy of the current financial system and called for an international code of conduct to guide global finance with ethical standards.
