WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Congressional Progressive Caucus released its New Affordability Agenda. In response, Mark Weisbrot and Eileen Appelbaum, co-directors of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, released the following statement:

“The Congressional Progressive Caucus’s New Affordability Agenda puts forth a set of important ideas that are both economically feasible and politically realistic. Some of these proposals could help Americans to narrow the gap between the US and other high-income countries – which spend about half as much per person on health care but have universal coverage, achieve higher life expectancy and much lower infant and maternal mortality, and offer much greater access to child care.

“If these proposals, or some subset, are enacted, it would substantially improve the quality of life for tens of millions of workers and their families. This should provide the basis for a serious debate on improving living standards for the vast majority of working people in this country.”
