Alison Tate is the director of economic and social policy at the International Trade Union Confederation. She is an economist, the commissioner of the Financial Sector Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking, and a board member of the Ethical Trading Initiative. She serves on global and community advisory boards, including ILO Better Work (a partnership between the International Labour Organization [ILO] and the International Finance Corporation), and the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre.
Previously, Alison represented Australian trade unions at the ILO and in other international and intergovernmental forums. She served as a consultant to a number of international NGOs — including Amnesty International, with the Better Work program — and has worked in campaigning, advocacy, and policy roles relating to human and trade union rights, labor migration and trafficking, international economics, international trade and investment, sustainable development, climate change, labor standards, and corporate social responsibility.
Alison has expertise in project design and management, vocational education and training, legal rights and legal aid, and organizational development. She has worked in Australia, South East Asia, and the Pacific and has degrees in economics and political science.
