Dawn began her career as an economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics. She then moved over to the private sector, where she held several marketing positions before leaving the corporate world in the late 1990s.

Since then, Dawn has worked as a fundraiser for several nonprofit organizations in Boston and Baltimore. Her most recent position was with the Baltimore City Public School System. She has a BS in economics from Towson University.
