A Federal Response to Long COVID and Other Complex Chronic Conditions

Nov 16, 2022

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (GMT-5)

Host:

Center for Economic and Policy Research

Researchers, policy experts, and Ryan Prior, author of "The Long Haul: Solving the Puzzle of the Pandemic's Long Haulers and How They Are Changing Healthcare Forever,” a new book out on November 15, discussed the need for a federal response to Long COVID and other complex chronic conditions that have disabled millions of Americans.

The findings in CPCC and CEPR's recent report, "Understanding and Addressing Long COVID," also were discussed.

We know the US has fared far worse than peer countries throughout the pandemic, having some of the world's highest death and infection rates. The early days of COVID exposed the dysfunctional infrastructure of the US' for-profit health care system and its inability to respond effectively to a public health emergency. It further confirmed how partisan politics impedes federal responsiveness and costs lives.

This event explores the impact Long COVID has had on communities and the economy and what it should have on the federal response to this and other chronic illnesses.
