The California Work & Family Coalition, California Commission on the Status of Women, and the California Legislative Women’s Caucus
California has made some progress in the areas of maternal and child health, yet a lot remains to be done. As the state prepares for the next legislative session, the California Work & Family Coalition, California Commission on the Status of Women, and the California Legislative Women’s Caucus sponsored an event to discuss the challenges and opportunities for maternal and child health policy.
Speakers at the event shared current information on various policies that impact and support the health of mothers and children in California, including Paid Family Leave; Lactation Accommodation; and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Featured speakers included CEPR Senior Economist Eileen Appelbaum and Ruth Milkman, professor of sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center and academic director of CUNY's Murphy Labor Institute.
