World Bank "I" Building/Room I1-200

1850 I St NW Washington, DC 20006

9:00 AM - 10:30 AM (GMT-5)

Host:

Friedrich Ebert Stiftung

The global financial crisis presents new challenges for safeguarding development and social protection, as steps taken to mend the struggling financial system – in both its regulation, institutional organization, and governance – have now been put forward at the G-20 Summit. This panel will address specifically the need for more transparent and democratic political processes to ensure that the new financial arrangements are accountable to the needs of people and not only of the financial system and its primary actors. The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung invites representatives of civil society to take the occasion of the spring meetings of the IMF and World Bank to discuss these urgent matters with Dean Baker, Co-Director, Center for Economic and Policy Research; Sony Kapoor, Managing Director, Re-Define (Rethinking Development, Finance & Environment); and Damon Silvers, Associate General Counsel, AFL-CIO. This event is hosted by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung New York. To RSVP, please contact Sara Burke at [email protected].
