Washington DC — The Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) released today, An Inclusive Child Allowance Would Strengthen the Public Child Support System, by senior policy fellow Shawn Fremstad.
Fremstad debunks claims made by Sen. Marco Rubio and others that the expanded Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan will destroy the child support system and reduce parent-child bonds. In fact, an inclusive child allowance will make it easier to improve the existing child support system in ways that strengthen parental bonds.
“An inclusive child allowance would reduce the financial pressures that too often set struggling parents at odds,” says Fremstad. “This would make it easier to reform the public child support system so it works better for all parents and children.”
