About Algernon Austin
Dr. Algernon Austin is Director of Race and Economic Justice at CEPR. He has researched race and racial inequality for over 20 years, with a current focus on Black unemployment and subsidized employment as a solution. He also studies social housing, infrastructure, and racial wealth inequality.
Austin holds a PhD in sociology from Northwestern University and previously taught at Wesleyan University. He has held positions at the Economic Policy Institute, the Center for Global Policy Solutions, Dēmos, and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and has appeared on PBS, CNN, and NPR.
